how do I type special characters on my laptop?

Example 1 / 2, 1 / 4 percent, 3 / 4 would fit on my desk and former ALT 0189, but that doesn, t on my laptop.

I know what you mean. . . but I really have no idea how we’ll help. Some laptops automatically 1 / 2, 1 / 4 and stuff like that. Most of the time in Microsoft Word does it automatically, so you can just type here and then copy and paste it wherever you want. Other than that, good luck.
Alt + 0189 is a key combination Windows character. He is working with Times New Roman, and probably some other writings, but not all fonts. To access the character map from the Windows menu, click Accessories, System Tools. If a particular character, has a keyboard shortcut will appear in the lower right corner.
