Wifi should be accessible by having a wireless card in your laptop, and wireless cards are nearly always included in laptops these days. I wouldn’t worry about that.
As for brand, I would go for Toshiba, Compaq or Sony – they have the least amount of repair cases reported, according to Consumer Reports, and hey – Japanese. Can’t go wrong with that. I’ve had a Toshiba for three years now in college, and haven’t had any non-user-related problems (ie, all problems were caused by yours truly, ha).
Space-wise, I wouldn’t worry a whole lot. A good-sized term paper is usually about 20KB, one song is about 5MB, and hard drives are usually offered in the 150GB range now.
Consider this – 1,000KB is equal to 1 MB, and 1,000MB is equal to 1GB. 150GB (150,000MB or 30,000 songs) should be more than enough – unless you have movies on there, which can be up to 1GB a piece nowadays.
Any other kinds of specs really shouldn’t matter too much. Things like RPM, RAM, etc. If you don’t know what they do, you probably won’t worry too much about them. Just tell the Best Buy assistant – or whoever comes over to bug you – what kinds of things you’d like to do on your computer, and he’ll find a great model for you. Unless you’re a hard-core gamer, you won’t need a highly customizable laptop.
As for extra accessories for college, all I can say is get a good MP3 player for study tunes in the library, a nice little TV for long nights, learn to make lots (and lots) of things using only a microwave, and don’t underestimate the flexibility of a ramen-based menu!
Have fun in college!

Well.. you want your laptop to have wi-fi enabled on it which will come with your laptop automatically if it’s up-to-date.
You won’t have to worry about space since hard drives are usually larger than what most average non-computer lovers use. (I know you’re not one because you’re asking for help about computers)
And then you will need to see if your campus offers wi-fi from the school or if you’ll have to buy a wireless router and set it up yourself. In most instances at large universities, you will not have to bring a wireless router.
You might also want a carrying bag, flash drive, and blank cd/dvds (just in case you need to copy files to hand in to teacher),

You can have a look at the dell laptops..
Personally i think the Dell Inspiron 1525 is a good one to try.
It is 1.83GHz 3GB 250GB Laptop. A decent deal for it is only $624.http://www.dealstudio.com/viewtopic.php?…
