Are There Any Advantages Of A Laptop Vs A Desktop Or Vice Versa For A Student?
I’ve just graduated from high school and was promised a computer as a graduation present. We’ve been shopping and comparing on dell.com because of a discount my dad gets through his job, but we were wondering what are the advantages of either a laptop or a desktop. I was comparing the XPS 420 desktop series and the M1530 laptop series and found, after customizing and selecting accessories, the laptop to be cheaper (by about a hundred or so dollars) but the desktop was marginally powerful. The primary function for this computer will be school but I do tend to play games such as RF Online or Lineage II in my free time. I don’t know, really.

advantages of laptops:

does not require furniture such as desks and chairs
advantages of desktop:
easier to upgrade
can be more powerful than laptops
usually cheaper than similar spec laptop
can not be dropped by carrying unlike laptop
seperate hardware such as monitors or keyboards can be replaced easier than laptops if broken

i have both and the laptop is deffinently my main choice. now days you can go just about everywhere and have free wi-fi so that you can do school work and such away from home. it is also good for traveling, you can hook your laptop up to a power convertor in your car and you work on just about anything. as to a desktop is not portable.

You get to take it everywhere with you? Could be the advantage ya know. I am a high school student and it is to my convenience that I can take it everywhere. Especially going to college, that way you will have it to have in class, in the lobby, in your dorm, anywhere on campus instead of a set in stone spot.
